How to properly create a virtual machine | 199Courses.com

Hello Guys its me Priyank and You are watching 199courses.com and in this video, we will be installing and creating our first virtual machine so in the Previous video, we have already downloaded and installed virtualbox Why did we choose virtualbox? We have taken virtualbox As an alternate to VMware – VMware is a paid software and This course is all about free resources and stuff like that so We are choosing virtualbox because it is free and it is good We will start by opening virtualbox and in case You have missed the previous video, in our previous video, we have installed virtualbox So this is the user interface and you can create a new machine by clicking on the New button and there are many settings available before Creating a new machine, you actually need to download The operating system that you want to install on your computer, Meanwhile we will download Because the file size will be quite big We will just go to Ubuntu ‘s official website, Ill be explaining What is ubuntu but for now, just try to understand ubuntu is the best linux operating system for People who are coming from windows operating system and Newer people or beginners. What we will do is we will just head Over ubuntu.com/download/desktop ubuntu.com/download/desktop Since we are on desktop, you can head over to desktop. This is the URL. Once you go over there, you will see a list Of operating systems, the versions available for ubuntu So the name of the version or the number on the version is actually Indicates the release date for example We have ubuntu 19.04 So before 19 we have 04 i.e. 2019 and fourth month, similarly we have 2018 2018 and 4th month and this is the second release Of 4th month. This is how it works and download The latest version whenever you are watching this video, Download the latest version, once you click on download you can actually Donate but it is not compulsory so in case you don’t Want to donate, you can avoid it and your download will start So the file size is around 2GB So ill just wait and until the file has been downloaded Meanwhile you can always configure your virtual machine And we are going to do the same. What you can do is just Open virtualbox and click on New to create a new virtual machine, now the name of the machine Is random. You can give random names. But we will just call it ubuntu, Type is linux As we are using linux based operating and there are two version 32 bit and 64 bit operating system, and Its time to add RAM . RAM is something that we will be using From your main computer so suppose it You have 8 GB you can always dedicate 4GB to virtual box and use 4GB for your personal computer. I will always recommend you to stay in the Green zone and it is recommended to keep Half the RAM for example I have 8 GB RAM Ill use 4GB. Now its time to setup a new Harddisk so we don’t have a hard disk, in case you have a hard disk you can select It but we are going to create a new virtual harddisk A virtual hard disk is basically a file on your system So it is just a file, it is a virtual hard disk and there are three type Of virtual hard disk. VDI, VHD and VMDK VHD and Virtual machine disk Virtual Machine disk can be used with VMware and VirtualBOX So you can select that or I would recommend you to select the first one. So personally in this course, ill select the first one Now its time to select the storage type, It can be dynamically allocated Or fixed size. A dynamic storage can be increased In future, suppose in future you want more space, you can always Increase it or decrease it whereas Fixed is fixed. I will use dynamic storage Now over here , you have to select the name of the hard disk and Where you want to store it. So in case you want to store it in your D drive on windows. Depending on the size and placement, you can do that, Now its time to Select how much space you want to allocate to ubuntu So we will use 20 GB as ubuntu does not require Any space it is kind of smaller Now its time to click on settings and go to system And will do some modifications with our system First modification is the processor Like RAM, you can increase or decrease processor or CPU power I have 12 CPUs or 12 cores, I can Actually dedicate half of them i.e. 6 or maybe 4 so depending on your system, you can increase or decrease Core so in case you have dual core processor, I would recommend Going half of it and its time to add our Operating system, so the file that we have download is an ISO file which is basically a DVD or CD but In virtual format so what we will do is you can actually add your DVD or CDs or Pendrives Using this settings over here. So just move to Settings storage and click on the blue icon over here and You choose a virtual harddisk Just open and select the file that you have downloaded Right now we have downloaded the ubuntu iso image and ill just go to downloads and
